Obama today took his oath to be the united states 44th president. It was a long process for obama, he didn't take his oath till just after noon today. Over millions of people; mainly african americans, were there to witness it.
Today I walked through the Student Association just as obama was on the television making his speech and there were about 20 students in the louge area watching the speech. Obama touched alot of points in his speech; such as the war in Irag and Afganistan, changing laws, paying attention to the workers and slaves in america, taking the nation in a new direction, ect. I found his speech very moving even though it has nothing to with were I live, I do have family in the states and I want their lives to be just as good as ours.
Barrack Obama is an idol to me, gives me hope that maybe one day we as canadians will have a black prime minister. Having a black prime minister will definatly make history.
I would really like to hear other people views on Obama being president and if canada had black prim minister.

I agree with you, it’s a huge step to have a non Caucasian president. But fun fact, Obama’s father is of Luo ethnicity and his mom was born in Kansas. He was born and raised in Hawaii. I don’t feel that we need an African American president, or Prime Minister, simply having someone who is not Caucasian would be a big enough step. It’s only sad that it is 2009 and it’s just happening. I wish that having a non Caucasian president didn’t have as big an impact because it should be expected. It shouldn’t matter what colour skin someone has. I can’t wait until the day that we stop seeing colour and start seeing people for who they are. It’s going to be a good day when we say “Hey he’s famous because of what kind of person he is, not what colour skin he has”. Having Obama as a president is an awesome step in the right direction, and I can’t wait to see what kind of amazing things come for it.
ReplyDeleteI think that the presidency of Obama is a great thing for everyone. It has shown the complete fall of racial supremecy in America. Obviously there are still racist people in North America and that is very unfortunate. Hopefully this will help many ignorant, un-educated people open their eyes. Perhaps Obama, a non-white president could be the greatest in the history of the great nation. This should, and will I'm sure inspire others to strive to do whatever they desire, knowing that there are no limits. Not just black people, or asians but anyone that may feel different for whatever reason.

I agree Obama becoming the president had and will make a change on the US. I have heard more about racial issues in the states then here. A few years ago when I watched the first season of 24 it made me question why has the US not had an afican american for presindency. I agree with some of the new reports that have stated that the first season of 24 where they had an afican american made the US look at their country and be more accepting.
